2015 ICC Codes R-Values and Best Practices

Both nationally, and particularly locally, building codes are in a state of flux. Here in Maryland we are currently transitioning to the model year 2015 ICC codes which have implications for all building trades and disciplines.

On Tuesday, November 10 please join BEC-Baltimore as we host Mark Graham of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) as he discusses the latest trends in building codes. With an emphasis on roofing issues, Mr. Graham will enlighten us on the following:

  • The 2015 International Building Code (IBC) and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)
  • How the code relates to roofing
  • How to specify R-values and tapered insulation
  • And, recommended best practices

This AIA accredited educational will be presented by a foremost roofing expert with the NRCA. Mr. Graham holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. In 1984, he began his career in the roofing industry when he joined F.J.A. Christiansen Roofing Co. Inc. in Milwaukee as an estimator and project manager. In 1986, he joined Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc., in Northbrook, Ill., as a project engineer specializing in the investigation, design and repair of roof and waterproofing systems.

Graham joined NRCA in 1993 and is responsible for the association’s Technical Services Section. Responsibilities of this section include response to inquiries for technical information and assistance, serving as the association’s technical liaison with outside organizations, and developing and maintaining the association’s technical documents, including The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual. Graham is the staff liaison to NRCA’s Technical Operations Committee and Manual Update Committee. He also is contributing editor for Professional Roofing magazine.

Mr. Graham is a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and is active in ASTM Committees D-8—Roofing and Waterproofing, C-16—Thermal Insulation, E-5—Fire Standards, and E-6—Performance of Buildings. He also is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers Inc., International Code Council and National Fire Protection Association.

This complimentary education seminar will start at 6:30pm with some light refreshments and networking, the program will begin at 7:00. All are welcome to register.
